Frequently asked questions

How curtailment works, what your trader receives and what it costs – short answers, with sources.

How it works

Do I need any extra hardware?

No. TokPirate works through your inverter manufacturer’s cloud – FusionSolar, iSolarCloud or SEMS Portal, for example. Nothing is installed on site and no technician visit is needed.

The only requirement is a working internet connection at the plant, so that it stays connected to the manufacturer’s cloud.

When exactly does the plant get curtailed?

When the IBEX price for a 15-minute interval falls below the minimum price you set. Once the price is back above your threshold, the system restarts the plant.

You set the threshold per plant or per inverter. To cover your fees – balancing, grid access and your trader’s admin fee – simply set a higher threshold. The grid access fee for PV producers is €2.72/MWh excl. VAT from 1 July 2026 (EWRC decision Ц-13, published by ERP Sever). Balancing and admin fees depend on your contract with your trader.

Since when have IBEX prices been set in 15-minute intervals?

Since delivery day 1 October 2025 (first trading day: 30 September 2025), the IBEX day-ahead market has run on 15-minute intervals. That means 96 prices a day instead of 24 – too many to follow by hand. What this changed for solar plants is covered in our guide to IBEX 15-minute prices.

Inverters and safety

Which inverters do you support?

Huawei, Sungrow, GoodWe, Growatt, SMA, Fronius, Solis and Deye, through their cloud platforms. See the Inverters page for details per brand.

Brand not on the list? Write to us and we’ll check whether its cloud allows remote control.

How is the plant curtailed – and is it safe for the inverters?

We use the manufacturer’s standard active power limitation – the same setting you could apply manually in its app. Output is limited smoothly; there is no hard switching of breakers or power supply.

When the price recovers, the limit is lifted and the inverters return to normal production.

What is zero export, and who needs it?

Zero export means the plant feeds nothing into the grid and only covers the site’s own consumption – typical for factories and warehouses with rooftop PV that don’t want to, or may not, export their surplus. An export limit works the same way, with a cap above zero.

TokPirate applies these limits through the inverter cloud. The feature is included in the Pro and Business plans. Before you start, we’ll check together that your installation’s equipment and settings support it.

Trader, schedules and imbalance

What is a production schedule, and why does my trader need it?

A schedule is the forecast of how much energy your plant will produce in each interval of the next day. Your trader uses it to plan sales, and schedules are notified to ESO, the Bulgarian transmission system operator, under its rules (ESO day-ahead schedule instruction, in Bulgarian). How a schedule is built and sent to your trader is covered in our guide to day-ahead production schedules.

Imbalance – the gap between schedule and actual output – is settled per 15-minute interval (ATEB) and usually costs money, so a more accurate schedule means lower costs. TokPirate sends your trader the schedule the day before, planned curtailments included.

Will I be charged for imbalance while the plant is curtailed?

Curtailments are built into the schedule your trader receives the day before, so they know about them in advance. A planned stop is no surprise to them or to the balancing group.

The main source of imbalance remains weather forecast error – as with any PV plant.

What is a balancing group?

A group of market participants whose imbalances are settled together. Its coordinator is licensed by EWRC (КЕВР, the Bulgarian energy regulator), is responsible to ESO for the whole group’s imbalance and allocates it among the members (source: etebg.eu, in Bulgarian). How imbalance arises and how its cost is shared is covered in our guide to imbalance and balancing groups.

Not sure which group your plant is in? Check your contract with your trader.

Pricing and contract

Is it worth it for a plant under 500 kW on a preferential tariff?

The benefit is greatest for plants that sell at market prices through a trader. Plants with an installed capacity of 500 kW or more must sell on the exchange (ATEB, in Bulgarian).

If your plant is below 500 kW and sells at a preferential price, check in your contract how that price is set. If it doesn’t depend on IBEX, the benefit of automatic curtailment is limited. Write to us and we’ll look at your case together.

Which currency are prices in, and is VAT included?

Euro. Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026 (European Commission, in Bulgarian), so all TokPirate prices are in EUR.

Prices exclude VAT. Plans start at €15 per month billed annually, and the first 14 days are free with no card required. See full pricing.

Can I manage several plants?

Yes. Connect all your plants to one account and set a separate minimum price for each. Your plan depends on the total number of inverters: Start – up to 5 inverters, Pro – up to 25 inverters, Business – up to 100 inverters, Custom – over 100 inverters.

The consolidated portfolio view across plants and companies is included in the Business plan.
